bayanihan, noun:
A Filipino word that describes a traditional system of mutual assistance in which the members of a community work together to accomplish a difficult task. In later use also: a spirit of civic unity and cooperation.
(Oxford English Dictionary)
At Bayanihan Therapy Services, we envision a world where every person continues to experience life to their liking, has something to wake up for, and has the tools & coping mechanisms to deal with its difficulties.
We provide occupational therapy services, dementia care education, and counselling services for carers, families, support network, and kin of people experiencing brain changes and dementia symptoms. We would like carers to feel supported, heard, and informed as they care for their loved ones in a safe, meaningful, joyful and loving manner.

The Canadian Practice Process Framework
The Canadian Practice Process Framework (CPPF) involves 8 steps that can be linear or non-linear depending on the context:
Enter / Initiate
Set the stage
Assess / Evaluate
Agree on objectives or plan
Implement the plan
Monitor or modify the plan
Evaluate outcome
Conclude / Exit
Before we enter a therapeutic relationship, we will pick a frame of reference while considering the broader societal context and our practice context. A therapist must take the time to go through the whole CPPF process, to help establish professional boundaries and therapeutic rapport. In our ever-changing global, political, social, academic, health, education, and economic climate, your occupational therapist must have a holistic view of health and must collaborate with you.
Land Acknowledgement
Bayanihan Therapy Services serves clients throughout the province of Manitoba, located on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Inniniwak, Ojibwe Cree, Dakota, Dene, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation.
We honour the treaties that were made on these territories and respectfully acknowledge and strive to avoid the harms of the past, those that continue into the present day, and the new harms that manifest in today's society. We dedicate ourselves in the spirit of service, conciliation, and collaboration with colonized, therefore marginalized communities.
We recognize that land acknowledgments are one of the first steps, not the only step in reconciliation and correcting harms of the past and present, and that as healthcare professionals, we have an integral part to play in shifting healthcare experiences for Indigenous people and systemically marginalized groups, to building trust, and to understanding the historical intentions and harms of the medical care system and its impact on Indigenous people.
